Nashville, TN (November 22, 2011) -- A Skaggs Family Christmas brings the magic of the holiday season to Nashville's Schermerhorn Symphony Center on Thursday, December 22 at 7 p.m. The ensemble performance features the combined members of the Skaggs and White families in a down-home, Bluegrass-inspired seasonal celebration that is a musical tour de force. Whether a traditional holiday favorite or a new composition; performed a capella or backed by Jim Gray and the Nashville Session Players, Ricky and his extended family bring their remarkable prowess to all.
Fleet-fingered pickin', intricate harmony lines and true joy imbue every note with authenticity and power that is without par. Tickets can be purchased at www.nashvillesymphony.org.
The 15-member troupe, comprised of Skaggs, his wife Sharon and their children Luke and Molly, includes Buck and Cheryl White and Cheryl's daughter Rachel, along with Kentucky Thunder and guest musicians. This is the ninth year that A Skaggs Family Christmas has taken to the road. "We started singing these songs in our living room ages ago," explains Sharon. "We had no idea that we would ever take this show to so many different places." To date, the entourage has performed in venues ranging from churches to symphony halls to the National Tree Lighting Ceremony in Washington D.C. This year's itinerary includes performances at Brooks Center for the Performing Arts, The Paramount Theater, Music Center at Strathmore, Tennessee Theatre, Honeywell Center, Niswonger Performing Arts Center of NW Ohio, Smokey Mountain Performing Arts Center and concludes with the Nashville performance at the Schermerhorn.
The Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum is gearing up for the holiday season with a sleigh-full of programs and activities for the whole family, including photos with Santa, holiday cookie decorating, the opportunity to make letterpress art with Hatch Show Print, musical performances, autograph signings and more! On Saturday, November 26, the 14-time Grammy® winner and The Whites will appear at the Country Music Hall of Fame Museum Store to sign autographs for purchasers of the Christmas package as part of the "Deck the Hall" promotion, which runs November 25 through December 24.
Ricky calls 2011 a "blessed" year. He continues to share Bluegrass music with fans both new and faithful. COUNTRY HITS BLUEGRASS STYLE was released this summer to critical acclaim and Skaggs has toured the U.S. and Canada with two different, sold-out live shows: the Treasure Chest Tour, and traditional Bluegrass evenings featuring Kentucky Thunder. A SKAGGS FAMILY CHRISTMAS VOLUME TWO was released in September. The 10-song disc features both studio and live recordings, and includes a bonus DVD filled with 26 performances taped at the Ryman Auditorium. His family is healthy and happy, and Skaggs wraps his 50th year in the entertainment field with two prestigious new awards on his mantle: Entertainer of the Year and Musician of the Year (17th Annual ICM Faith, Family & Country Awards).
"The holidays are a joyous time for us," says Ricky. "To be able to share word of God's love and the meaning of the season are gifts we treasure year 'round, but there's a little extra sparkle to it all as Christmas draws near."
